AHANS Welcomes Five New Members to the Board of Directors

AHANS is excited to welcome five new members to our Board of Directors following an open nomination process.

Joining the board are Anne Marie Mason, a retired nonprofit housing leader; Jennifer Hogan, a housing and community-building advocate; Sydnee Blum, a Community Legal Worker with Dalhousie Legal Aid Service; Alexander Rimmington, an Associate Lawyer with Cox & Palmer; and Nathan Hines, Vice President of Operations at Crombie REIT.

Together, the new directors bring experience across nonprofit and cooperative housing, homelessness services, community advocacy, legal services, real estate development and operations, governance and capital planning. Their one-year, renewable terms add to the range of perspectives supporting AHANS’s work to provide affordable housing and help end homelessness in Nova Scotia.

Meet the New Board Members

Anne Marie Mason brings more than 25 years of experience in cooperative and nonprofit housing, with a background spanning project and facilities management, asset development, capital planning, executive leadership and government funding.

Jennifer Hogan has more than 20 years of experience working across housing and homelessness, violence against women, community and crisis services. Her experience includes system navigation, coordinated access, frontline advocacy, case management and program development.

Sydnee Blum is a Community Legal Worker with Dalhousie Legal Aid Service, where her work focuses on rental housing and income security. She also brings experience in community organizing, law reform, political advocacy and disability rights.

Alexander Rimmington is an Associate Lawyer with Cox & Palmer in Halifax. His practice includes corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and governance, with experience supporting businesses and organizations in Nova Scotia.

Nathan Hines is Vice President of Operations at Crombie REIT, where he leads a national operations team overseeing more than 300 properties across Canada. He brings more than 15 years of experience in commercial, residential and municipal real estate, including property operations, capital planning, financial oversight, risk management, sustainability and strategy.

The five new directors join current Board members  Charbel Daniel, Chair; Ali Buchan, Vice-Chair; Cory Porteous, Secretary; Mark Bergman; Charity Carr; Ramzi Kawar; and Cheryl Tschupruk.

AHANS is also recognizing the contributions of departing Board members Kaitlyn Veitch and Neil Lovitt. Veitch served on the Board for nine years, contributing leadership and operational experience, while Lovitt served for six years, including three years as Chair, and brought expertise in planning, development, market intelligence and housing policy.

As AHANS continues to work across Nova Scotia to provide affordable housing and support to end homelessness, the addition of the five new directors strengthens the breadth of experience and perspectives represented at the Board table.
